Wi fi repeater help needed.

I have my main WI fi router (tp link n600)in my second floor so i connected a LAN cable to my main router which comes down to my first floor and there I connected tp-link tl-mr3040 (I have this for a long time unused).it extends the signal a little bit .
Now i want to buy a better one which will extend the signal, but I dont know what to buy should I buy a Wifi repeater and connect it to the lan cable in first floor or a second wifi router and connect it to the first floor lan cable.
